Critical Limb Ischemia in Diabetic Smoker Managed with Peripheral Angioplasty and Stenting
63 year old diabetic and heavy smoker came with critical limb is chaemia of left leg, gangrene had set in 3rd toe of left foot. Patient was having severe, unbearable rest pain and ulcers…we took promise from patient to quit smoking first!!! Peripheral angio revealed long segment 100% occlusion of a major artery in left thigh( left SFA)…angioplasty successfully done with around 20 cm long peripheral stent…blood flow to the toes significantly improved…though 3rd toe needed amputation as per decision of surgeons, as gangrene had set in, the remaining foot and toes were saved from further progression…Such timely interventions in disbetic patients with ulcers and gangrene in foot, can sometimes save a major part of limb from amputation.
